Sports Makes the World Go Round

Sports has always been a uniting factor throughout the world, bringing people together regardless of age, gender, ethnic origins, religion, nationality or even physical disabilities, in the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship.

With sports as a backdrop in an endeavour to foster greater fellowship, understanding and harmony amongst our eclectic Malaysian community, more so, the less fortunate, Tanjong plc has once again organized Hari Muhibah for the third time around.

Held at the well-equipped Matshusita Sports Centre in Shah Alam, the one-day event saw more than 400 multi-racial participants representing 13 voluntary organizations from the Klang Valley, taking part. The competitors include the physically challenged, orphans and children with social problems.

Excitement, suspense and thrill were certainly the order of the day when Hari Muhibah kicked-off on a bright and sunny Sunday morning. The competitive spirit of the participants was evident especially in the more physically challenging activities such as wheelchair basketball, badminton and ping-pong. One cannot be faulted for being at awe with the dexterity, strength and agility shown by the physically challenged athletes.

The young ones were also not left out of the excitement thanks to the telematches organized during the event. A variety of activities ranging from racing with a ball on a spoon to the gunny-sack race were held to much amusement and laughter.

The staff and volunteers of Tanjong plc also participated wholeheartedly in the telematch games such as walking blindfolded while carrying out the leaders' instructions, skipping and running at the same time in the ‘terompah gergasi’ or ‘giant clogs’. Watching the staff go through the motions of these games was hilarious. It was a barrel of laughter for all present.

All time favourites such as chess, congkak and dominos were also included for those who excel at mental games to exhibit their skills.

Competitive sports aside, some of the highlights of the day include a power lifting demonstration by Persatuan Orang-orang Cacat Anggota Malaysia (POCAM) and wheelchair dancing by Janequin Studio Kajang.
